METRO LOGISTICS positions itself as an independent logistic company

METRO LOGISTICS, hitherto known as a group service provider of METRO AG, is now positioning itself as an independently operating logistics company.

To this effect, METRO LOGISTICS realigns itself strategically and, in addition to its traditional portfolio of procurement, distribution, and contract logistics services, now also offers a wide range of val-ue added services on the German logistics market. Nine multi-user logistics centres at eight logistics sites form an optimal logistics network that is already today servicing companies from a variety of industries.

“We are setting out on the market as a new logistics company, but with 25 years of experience in logistics”, says Armin Köller, CEO of METRO LOGISTICS. “So far, we have been operating as a service provider in the logistics market with only limited public visibility as we were working to full capacity on the central warehousing functions which we were performing for METRO and Real. For us, the divestment of Real marked the starting signal to offer our services portfolio and knowhow also to customers outside of the Group. We created a logistics network for the retail entities and cash & carry stores of METRO that optimally serves the highly dynamic and complex processes of retail logistics – a network that we would now also like to make available to other industries and customers”, continues Köller.

METRO LOGISTICS will continue to be in charge of the German warehousing operations and outbound logistics of METRO and manage the inbound logistics in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

“As an independent logistics company, we are currently establishing new competencies in the fields of sales, marketing, tender management, and IT. That way, we are optimally positioned to integrate new customers. Already today, we are performing contract and inbound logistics services for new customers from different industries and can integrate them into our portfolio flexibly and fast. We are convinced that, with our consulting competence, our logistics services and our value added services as well as with our geographically optimally located site network, we can offer a true value added for the logistics needs of customers from the most diverse industries”, says Thorsten Sega, Chief Operating Officer of METRO LOGISTICS.
